Asante Samuel, LeSean McCoy expose 'overrated' All-Pro ex-Eagles teammate

When Nnamdi Asomugha arrived in Philly to join the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011, it was naturally met with excitement. After all, the team was getting an All-Pro cornerback who was in his prime at the time.

Sure enough, the squad couldn't exist more incorrect. Asomugha struggled in his time in Philly and lasted just two years with the Eagles–not fifty-fifty half of the 5-year deal (worth $60 one thousand thousand) he signed with the franchise. Philadelphia released the cornerback, who then played for the San Francisco 49ers for ane year to little success as well.

However, co-ordinate to his former Eagles teammates Asante Samuel and LeSean McCoy, they knew Asomugha was overrated after seeing him in Day 1 of practise, via New York Post.

"So when we had Nnamdi, information technology was his offset one-on-ane at practice, it was army camp. Everybody'southward similar, 'Oh we've got Nnamdi,' he signed a big-ass bargain, so we're all looking," McCoy said on the I Am Athlete podcast. "Just when he went confronting the tight end Brent Celek … the tight stop hit him with, like, a mail service corner. We was like, 'Awwwww.'"

Samuel, for his part, has a theory why Asomugha had a hard time adjusting with the Eagles. For him, the iii-time Pro Bowler was non used at the brawl being thrown at him. While he did allow just i touchdown in 45 games with the then Oakland Raiders, opposing quarterbacks apparently targeted him more in Philadelphia.

"Earlier Nnamdi Asomugha came to Philly, he was a great actor right. Then he came to Philly, they start throwing the ball at him. They weren't throwing the ball at him [in Oakland]," Samuel explained.

"So they're throwing information technology at Nnamdi, and now you've got to see the real player that Nnamdi is. You're brainwashed considering they weren't throwing the ball at him. [Asomugha was a] guy that was just overrated and, y'all know, they gave a lot of pub to because of whatever … But like a lot of overrated people."

While Nnamdi Asomugha could have a dissimilar version of what went wrong in his career after leaving the Raiders, the fact that he was out of the league by 2014 is quite telling. Possibly Asante Samuel and LeSean McCoy is right virtually their cess, though it would certainly be interesting to hear from Asomugha himself.
